Celebrating National Mentoring Month – A Note from our Program Director

To help spread awareness of mentoring, January has been recognized as “National Mentoring Month” by the United States Senate. On January 23rd, mentoring organizations from across Vermont gathered together at the state capital in Montpelier for the MENTOR Vermont’s Youth Mentoring Celebration.

During this event, we witnessed Governor Phil Scott sign the Mentoring Month Proclamation, which recognizes the important role mentors play in the lives of children in Vermont, and highlights the dedication of all Vermont mentoring organizations. Youth mentees then gathered in the Statehouse Chambers to witness the Mentoring Month Resolution introduced by Representative Kate Webb.

At the end of this month, several representatives from Vermont-based mentoring groups will gather at the National Mentoring Summit in Washington DC, where they will have access to more than 80 workshops that showcase program models, collaborations, and new ideas to strengthening the mentoring field. As the recipient of the 2020 Summit to DC Scholarship from Mentor VT, I am thrilled for the upcoming opportunity to attend this summit in January 2020 (Thank you, Mentor VT!).

Being a part of the mentoring celebration event this month has inspired me as we go forward into the new year and as New Circle Mentoring continues to grow.

“I invited Representative Ben Jickling to join me for lunch at the Celebration of Mentoring. Since Ben has experience with the start up of mentoring programs, I enjoyed sharing the successes of our program with him.”
