The ChIPs Program

To help the children of incarcerated parents (ChIPs), Safer Society Foundation presents a new series of free illustrated storybooks. In America today, there are 2.7 million kids with parents in prison. The ChIPs storybooks are designed to help them overcome the social, emotional and educational challenges they face. Katelen Fortunati, MSW LCSW, the author of Safer Society Foundation’s ChIPs Storybooks, is a mental health clinician in Belleville, IL. She leads an early intervention program for children of incarcerated parents and travels widely to conduct training workshops for school counselors and social workers on school-based interventions for children of incarcerated parents.
