Manuscript Submission Guidelines

We are pleased to receive proposals for potential books, brochures, or pamphlets. Proposed projects need to be compatible with Safer Society Foundation’s goals and mission. Authors should note that we use a peer review process for all publishing projects. To evaluate a proposal, we request that submissions include the following:

Author/Editor Information

  • CV or resume
  • Brief description of your qualifications to write this book (1-2 paragraphs)
  • Contact information: name, address, phone number, and e-mail address

Book Description

  • Book’s working title/subtitle
  • Brief description of your book (1-2 paragraphs)
  • Table of contents
  • Annotated table of contents, in which each chapter is summarized in a paragraph or two
  • Estimation of length of completed manuscript

Manuscript or Sample Chapters

Proposal should include a minimum of three sample chapters or as much as the entire manuscript. If you send a whole manuscript, please indicate which chapters or portion of the book best represents your work as a researcher, editor, or writer. If you would like feedback before you make a submission, please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you send sample chapters only, and we are interested in the rest of the book, we will then request that you submit the full manuscript.

Artwork

  • Does your manuscript have original artwork/illustrations?

Audience

  • Who is your book intended to reach?
  • What will that audience gain from reading it?

Competition

  • What other current books address the same or similar topic?
  • In what ways does your book enrich or advance the field?

Market

  • Briefly, how can the intended audience be reached?

Timetable

  • If this manuscript is not yet completed, what is the realistic target date for that completion?

Submission Format

Because our review process involves both internal and outside reviewers, please send your book proposal:

  • In a paper version, through the mail
  • And also as either an e-mail Word attachment or a PDF/Word document on a disk
  • Manuscripts should be printed on white paper, one side only, double-spaced, and set in 12-point type.

E-mail only proposals cannot be considered.

Return Postage

Please make sure you supply your current mailing address and e-mail address for our response. If you would like your paper manuscript returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped  mailer. We cannot return manuscripts without a SASE.
