Discussion of audience, need, and competition
Who is this book for? In what ways does your book serve its intended audience? Why does your book matter? How will it help? How is your book different from or better than other books on the same or similar topics currently available. Be as specific as possible and make sure and address all 3 areas (audience, need, competition). We suggest discussing anywhere from 2 to 7 competing titles. Be thorough but be succinct (1 paragraph to 1 page for this whole discussion; bulleted presentation of information is fine). Present your strongest case for why this book is important to you, to its audience, and to Safer Society Press and its mission.
Manuscript or sample chapters
You may send 13 sample chapters or an entire manuscript. In an initial review we are likely to read 1 chapter only, so if you prefer to send the entire manuscript please indicate which chapter best represents your work as a researcher and writer.
Format
Because our review process involves both internal and outside reviewers, we prefer that you send your book proposal as both a printed copy through the mail and as an email attachment. Email-only proposals cannot be considered. Manuscript submissions should be printed single-sided, double-spaced, on white paper, and set in 12-point type with 1-inch margins. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for our reply and a self-addressed stamped mailer if you would like your manuscript returned.
And one thing more
Most of our authors are professionals in their area of expertisenot professional writers. And while this procedure can seem formal, and even daunting, its best to use your common sense and let your voice as a writer, professional, and human being come through. Were looking for a good book that will advance the field. Maybe its yours. Address your submissions and any inquiries to:
