Become a Mentor

Make a lifelong difference in the life of a child...

Mentoring provides a unique opportunity to create a long-term relationship that focuses on supporting a mentee on their path to healthy adulthood. It is an opportunity to contribute to your community in a way that is affordable, direct, and enjoyable. Most importantly, you will receive the friendship of a young person.

Mentor your "mentee" in your free time...

Many mentoring programs are school-based. The New Circle Mentoring program is community-based, which means simply that mentoring activities happen outside of school and take place all year round. As a New Circle mentor, you and your “mentee” will decide how to spend your time together. Some of your time may be spent in spontaneous activities—such as going for ice cream after school; some may be in structured activities—such as taking art classes together at the Middlebury Studio School or working out together at the Vermont Sun Fitness Center. The Program Director and her staff work to supply you with options to make your mentoring time interesting and fun!

Take advantage of group events...

As a New Circle mentor, you and your mentee will be able to attend group mentoring events organized by the program. Group events enable mentors and mentees to form friendships with other mentors and mentees in the program, build mentees’ social skills, and create a sense of community within our group. Some of our recent group events included taking tennis lessons and playing games at Middlebury Indoor Tennis, learning to cook fun food at the Hannaford Career Center, and participating in our annual trip to the Addison County Fair!

Train with your fellow mentors...

New Circle training sessions provide a great opportunity for mentors to spend time learning, encouraging, and supporting one another. These sessions are led by the program’s Clinical Director, who is also available on call to offer direct support to our mentors and mentees’ families.
