Dottie has six decades of experience as a high school, middle school, and elementary school counselor (through the Counseling Service of Addison County) and a community activist in Addison County. She pioneered a peer-to-peer mentoring program at Middlebury High School, and served as a member of the board of directors of Youth Empowerment. When Dottie found out that one in six children in Addison County didn’t have enough to eat, she organized the Friday Night Suppers at the Middlebury Congregational Church – which is now a program of the Middlebury Community Care Coalition. In 2011, Dottie received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from her alma mater, Middlebury College.
