Trauma-Informed Mentoring Workshop

Safer Society Foundation’s Executive Director, Mary Falcon, conducted a workshop on Trauma-Informed Mentoring at the 2017 Vermont Mentoring Symposium hosted by Mobius, Vermont’s Mentoring Partnership.
Mary’s presentation was about improving mentor effectiveness through an understanding of the harmful impact of chronic traumas in childhood, or adverse childhood experiences (also known as ACEs), on children’s thought processes, emotions, and behavior as well as training mentors to recognize mentee behaviors that may be the result of ACEs—such as distrustfulness of adults, irrational fears, difficulty focusing—and respond appropriately in order to help build mentee resilience.
