Who We Are

Safer Society Foundation, Inc. is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to provide resources for the prevention and treatment of sexual abuse. We address sexual abuse as a public health issue, and work to create ways in which all stakeholders can collaborate to arrive at solutions which provide us all with safer communities. We are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Our federal tax identification number (TIN) is 03-0347466, and our federal tax records (IRS Form 990’s) are available at www.guidestar.org or upon request. Safer Society Foundation, Inc. owns and operates the safersociety.org web site (“safersociety.org” or the “Site”). Safer Society Press is a wholly-owned program of Safer Society Foundation, Inc. The Foundation also operates a free, nationwide referral service to specialized sex offender treatment.

Our Commitment to Privacy

Safer Society is committed to protecting the privacy and security of personally identifiable information that we may gather about you through your visits to safersociety.org. This document will help you understand what information we collect about you, and how we handle that information once we collect it. This policy tells you if we disclose that information to others, and what choices you may have regarding how we use that information. Please note that this Privacy Policy applies only to safersociety.org, and not to the web sites of any third party to which we may link or that may link to us. You should review the privacy policies of any third party web sites, as they will be different from this one.

Visitors may browse safersociety.org without revealing any personally identifiable information such as your name, address, phone number, or e-mail address. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we may collect certain information from your computer, such as your computer’s IP address through the use of cookies as discussed below.

Use of Cookies

Safer Society uses cookies to enhance your experience while using the Site. Cookies are pieces of information, such as a computer’s IP address, that some web sites transfer to the computer that is browsing that web site and are used for record-keeping purposes at many web sites. Use of cookies makes web-surfing easier by performing certain functions such as saving your passwords, your personal preferences regarding your use of the particular web site, and to make sure you don’t see the same content repeatedly. Many consider the use of cookies to be an industry standard.

Your browser is probably set to accept cookies. However, if you would prefer not to receive cookies, you can alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, it is possible that some areas of safersociety.org will not function properly when you view them. Aggregate Data

Safer Society gathers and pools, or aggregates, certain usage information about the Site, such as the number and frequency of visitors to safersociety.org, length of stay, and other anonymous data. This data helps us determine usage levels on different parts of safersociety.org, and to conduct other internal research. We may disclose this kind of information in an aggregate form only, without any personally identifiable information, to sponsors, supporters, and other third parties. As stated above, for these uses, we do not disclose any information that could be used to identify you personally.

Registration

Certain pages on safersociety.org such as referral requests, newsletter or other update requests, and shopping cart pages may request that you provide some personally identifiable information to us, such as your name, address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address, or credit card number. We may ask for such information in order to fulfill your referral request, to enable you to purchase merchandise, or to enable you to receive periodic information from Safer Society. We use third party vendors to handle all our online financial transactions, as discussed in more detail in the section entitled “Financial Information.”

In addition, we may use such information to analyze site usage for safersociety.org, to improve our content, to better understand our user base, and to customize the Site’s content, layout, and services. Finally, we may use your e-mail address to send you updates or newsletters apprising you of recent events and developments relating to Safer Society and its mission.

Newsletter Subscription and Opt-Out Procedures:

Safer Society uses Constant Contact to send newsletters and other e-mail notifications and updates. Constant Contact’s Anti-Spam policy requires permission-based e-mail; therefore, you need to affirmatively state that you wish to receive our newsletters or be notified of Safer Society updates, such as new Safer Society Press books. You may, at any time, opt-out or change your preferences or profile using the link in your newsletter or by using this form. If you believe you have received an unsolicited e-mail from Safer Society, please report it using this form.

Financial Information

We work with vendors to handle all our online financial transactions, including online sales. Credit card and bank detail information that you provide is not retained on our web servers.

To ensure the maximum level of security is applied to your data, data transmitted from the Site is encrypted using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). In addition, we work only with vendors who ensure that all financial transmissions over the internet to and from their sites use SSL. None of these vendors will use your personally identifiable information for any purpose other than as authorized by you at the Site or their sites.

The following are vendors we currently work with. This list is subject to change without notice:

PDG Software
Our online store operates through PDG shopping cart software. All financial information collected to process a store purchase is transmitted securely to our payment processing service, QuickBooks Merchant Services. Financial information is used solely for the purpose of that transaction.

Surveys and Questionnaires

Occasionally we may invite you to fill in questionnaires or surveys while you are online at the Site. The data collected by the questionnaire or survey will only be used for the purpose stated on the form, and for no other purpose. You may also be given the opportunity to add your address details to our databases so we can contact you in the future

Online Comments

Safer Society invites you to submit anonymous online comments and feedback through different forms on the Site. By submitting such information, you hereby grant permission to Safer Society to use these comments on the Site or in other Safer Society materials. We may, for instance, provide compilations of your comments to individuals participating in our efforts or make comments to the press and public online. No personally identifiable information about you will be disclosed because the comment was submitted anonymously.

You may sometimes have the option of providing personally identifiable information along with your comment. If you choose to provide such personally identifiable information, none of your personally identifiable information will be included with comments without your express consent.

Who We Share Information With

If you purchase a Stop It Now! Guidebook (WP071, Prevent Child Sexual Abuse; WP075, Do Children Sexually Abuse Other Children; WP087, Algo estaba pasando en mi propio hogar, y you no me habia dado cuenta antes; or WP110, Let’s Talk) your contact information (name, address, and phone number) will be shared with Stop It Now per our distribution agreement with Stop It Now.  We do not sell, rent, or lend any information about our users or donors to any other organization.

Other Uses

We may use internal service providers to facilitate our services, and therefore, may provide some of your personally identifiable information directly to them. In addition, we may employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf, such as web site hosting and data analysis. These companies and individuals will only have access to the personally identifiable information needed to perform their functions, and may not use it for any other purpose.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”), which uses cookies and tracking code to help analyze how visitors use the Site. The information collected, (including what browser and operating system you are using, your IP address, the pages on the Site you visit, your number of page views, and the time you spend on the Site), is transmitted to and stored by Google. Google uses this information for the purpose of evaluating visitors’ use of the Site in an aggregate manner, compiling reports on web site activity for web site operators, and providing other services relating to web site activity and Internet usage. Google may transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or to third parties that process information on Google’s behalf. Access to Your Information

You may request a copy of any personally identifiable information that Safer Society has about you. Please contact our Web Manager using this form or write to the Web Manager, Safer Society Foundation, P.O. Box 340, Brandon, VT 05733. Safer Society does not charge for supplying this information and will reply within 40 days of receipt of your request. It will help us locate your records more easily if you can tell us something about the nature of your contact with Safer Society.

Safersociety.org includes links to other web sites, not owned or managed by Safer Society Foundation. We cannot be held responsible for the privacy of data collected by web sites not managed by Safer Society Foundation.

Limits on Security on the Internet

We employ different security techniques to protect your personally identifiable information from unauthorized users inside and outside of Safer Society Foundation, including standard encryption practices. Your should be aware, however, that “perfect security” does not exist anywhere on the Internet.

ALTHOUGH WE BELIEVE WE TAKE APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO SAFEGUARD AGAINST UNAUTHORIZED DISCLOSURES OF INFORMATION, WE CANNOT ASSURE YOU THAT YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION OR YOUR E-MAIL COMMUNICATIONS WITH SAFER SOCIETY FOUNDATION WILL NEVER BE DISCLOSED IN A MANNER INCONSISTENT WITH THIS POLICY, AND WE MAKE NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES REGARDING  THE SUFFICIENCY OF OUR SECURITY MEASURES.

Always be careful and responsible regarding your personally identifiable information. We are not responsible for, and cannot control, the use by other of any information that you provide or divulge to others, purposefully or inadvertently, including your e-mail address and password to use certain features of the Site. Disclaimer for Law Enforcement Purposes

We do not publish, sell, share, or rent information about you in way different than what is disclosed in the Privacy Policy. However, we may be forced to disclose information to the government or third parties under certain circumstances. We may be required to (and you authorize us to) reveal any information about you that we possess to law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe is necessary or appropriate, in connection with the investigation of a crime, mandatory reporting laws, fraud, intellectual property infringement, or other activity that is illegal, or may expose us, or you, to liability. Also, if someone of any age is in immediate danger, we may disclose whatever information you have provided to the appropriate authorities.

Changes to the Policy

We may revise or update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting a revised Privacy Policy on the Site. You should refer back to this page often for the latest information and the effective date of any changes. If we decide to change this Privacy Policy, we will post a new policy on our Site and change the date at the bottom. Changes to the policy shall not apply retroactively.
